Reviews Of Darlene's Newest Book!

Rover, Get Off Her Leg!

An upbeat, practical guide to teaching good canine manners, Rover, Get Off Her Leg! is also a hilarious field guide to dog misdeeds that range from the annoying and embarrassing to the utterly mortifying. Fortunately for dog owners everywhere, author Darlene Arden speaks to the unspeakable with great good humor and practical wisdom. Highly recommended!”_--Susan Conant, author of Gaits of Heaven, Scratch the Surface

“Humor is good, accuracy is essential--and Darlene Arden provides both, as she answers questions we're so often too embarrassed to ask, which assuredly gives this a leg up on other books. And I can honestly say among the countless books on dogs I've read, this is the only one with a chapter called, 'Sex and the Dog Owner.' Just between us, I learned a little myself.”_--Steve Dale, www.stevedalepetworld.com

With a title like this... Anyone can write about the niceties of the human/animal bond (ad nauseam). Anyone can write a "how-to" book on animal behavior problems, a-la Popular Mechanix-dull and trite. But it takes a Darlene Arden - a special, genuine, confident connoisseur to pull off a bold, informed, and humorous book with THAT TITLE. Just like Smuckers - "It's got to be good."

And indeed it is - better than we could have anticipated. What a joy to have such a valued authority like Darlene - a certified animal behavior consultant - come forth with such an authoritative book book dealing with the dark side of human/animal relationships with such taste and gentility, and such deep and welcome humor.

I have had the good fortune to know Darlene, not only as a good friend and admirer, but also, uniquely, as a client. As such, I have had a rare opportunity to witness her profound feeling and compassion for animals, her deep well of knowledge of their traits, normal and aberrant, and her insightful and intelligent manner of dealing with such pathologies. I know her then from two vantage points - as a devoted reader and from a close doctor-client relationship. On both levels she merits and has earned accolades. She is so good at what she does, so forgive me if I wax enthusiastically - it is deserved. Who else could discourse about inappropriate behaviors so blithely and productively.

My hat is off to my very dear friend - I revel in her achievements and the wonderful receptions she has receptions she has received. At last, I have a point of reference I can turn to when an embarrassed client comes to me with these noisome problems, and I can refer to Darlene's book with pride and authority.

I look forward to her future efforts with great anticipation - they are not only good reads, but I have learned so much from them, in addition. - Sincerely, Ray Russo, D.V.M., Kingston, MA

Rover, Get Off Her Leg! covers the how-to-handle strategies for every possible pooch problem. Darlene tells you what tactics work and what doesn't even for the difficult deal breakers like aggression, incessant barking and separation anxiety. She shares her tremendous dog sense with all, often stressing the importance of teaching your dog a default behavior such as a "Sit" or freestyle practice to replace the unacceptable behavior. This book is a perfect resource for all who adopt a shelter dog…actually for every dog fancier, from novice to long timer owner. Add Rover to your own library or buy it for a dog loving friend. ~ Joanne Anderson, The Beacon

Darlene Arden knows whereof she speaks, and I'm glad she shares what she knows. ~ Susan Ewing, Jamestown Post-Journal

Ms. Arden teaches the reader how to avoid teaching the dog bad habits and how to unteach those the reader has already taught the dog. She even goes into how much to feed a new puppy and other helpful hints like that. New dog parents need all the help they can get.  I appreciated all the tings covered in this book. It is so much easier just to go to one source than to have to read one book for training and another for raising the new puppy, etc. ~ Gail C. Parker, Canine Collectables Courier

Arden's spirited romp combines a sharp-eyed analysis with a breezy, et stylish presentation that's devilishly funny one moment and fraught with a mother lode of squirming discomfort the next. Credibility make it a must-read for all. ~ Ranny Green
